Spring Dates to Try in 2023

The season began on Monday March 20th and runs until Wednesday June 21st, bringing with it longer days, more sunshine and warmer weather. So what activities are trending at the moment, and which spring dates should you try in 2023?

Spring date ideas

It’s the time of year when we see new life all around us, in plants, flowers and animals. This subconsciously puts us in the mood to find a mate and go on some dates. And we have some great ideas to put some zing into your spring dating!

May date ideas

Finally, we’re out of the long cold winter and enjoying milder temperatures that make venturing outdoors far more palatable. Here are our top date ideas for May 2023.

Virtual concerts

The virtual concert, powered by AI, is a hot new trend for 2023. See your favourite bands brighter and bolder than ever before, but not in the flesh. A great example of this is the Voyage London phenomenon. At the moment it’s pretty pricey, but an incredible experience and an unforgettable night out.

Bingo brunch

Or drag brunch, or Bridgeton brunch, or boozy brunch, or singalong brunch, or pop anthem brunch. In 2023 brunch is way more than just a mid-morning meal. It is an event and one that is usually paired with a fun theme. Don some sequins and sparkle and go full-on glam for your riotous early-in-the-day date. And if it goes well, you can continue on into the afternoon and even the evening, with some of the other date ideas on our list.

Flower planting

You don’t need your own garden for this. Just grab some seeds and head to a scrappy bit of land that could do with a flash of colour. Choose wildflowers that are bee friendly, because, in case you hadn’t heard, we really need to take care of our declining bee population. You’ll be doing something good for the planet and your neighbourhood and (as you can often pick up seeds for free), it needn’t cost any more than a bus fare.

Chess

It’s hardly a new innovation, yet this ancient game of strategy has seen an immense revival in the past few months, with record searches on YouTube and vastly increased traffic on online Chess sites. Loads of gastropubs have picked up on this geek-chic phenomenon, with boards available for play and tournaments happening. Test your prospective partner's wits by challenging them to a battle of the brain.

Spring speed dating

This is a date (or rather dates) for all seasons. But come the spring we’re past the hibernation phase and in the mood to get out and about. It’s the perfect solution if you don’t have a date in the first place, as you’re very likely to leave with one in the bag (we have an 80% match rate for our events).

June date ideas

Summer is peeking around the corner, but there’s more spring fun to be had yet, as the weather continues to warm up. Here’s what to try this June.

Rock climbing

It’s hot, but it’s not too hot. So you’ll be happy working up a little bit of a sweat and getting some cardio along with strength training, as you tackle some rock climbing. Clearly, if you’re a novice, you shouldn’t be trying to scale the nearest cliff. But if you have the gear and a whole load of experience you can plan your own climb. If not, hit up a local climbing wall, or join a coached session together in the great outdoors.

Berry picking

Strawberry harvest starts in May but peaks around June, so this is the right time to get juicy with your squeeze. Find a farm near you and top up on vitamin C with this superfood. Then afterwards you can cook something decadent with the — literal — fruits of your labour.

City cycling or scooting

It’s never been easier to traverse the UK’s cities, now that all of them have some kind of a pay-as-you-go bike scheme. Look out for Santander Cycles, Brompton Bike Hire, Nextbike, Belfast Bikes, Beryl, BTN BikeShare, Citibikes, OVO bikes and more, in a destination near you. Cycle lanes are becoming more prolific too, so it’s a great way to enjoy the sunshine and do some sightseeing together.

Make your own ice cream

With the price of a seaside cone soaring, a bit of DIY dating will save the pennies. And doing it this way means you can get really creative with unusual ingredients, as well as catering to any dietary requirements or preferences you may have.
How will you start your spring dating adventures? If you’re daunted by the prospect, remember you’re not alone and we’re here to help, with carefully organised events happening across the country.

Related Questions

What is the ideal first date?
First dates should always be planned for a public place and usually work best with some kind of light activity in the mix, so the interaction doesn’t feel overly intense. Choose something low-key and relatively short, so that you’re not stuck with each other for ages if you fail to click.
How do you have a perfect date?
What constitutes “perfect” will vary from person to person, so don’t assume your date will have exactly the same tastes as you. To make it a failsafe, really probe into what you both enjoy; think about what energises you, nourishes you and makes you light up.
